Commitments to Cycle: A Bicycle Journey Through 1991 Ireland

In the summer of 1991, Stephan Pranger, a budget-conscious Dutch adventurer, embarked on a bicycle trip around Ireland with his friend Dennis. Armed with little more than a basic map of Ireland and the promise of beautiful landscapes, Stephan set off on an unforgettable journey. This was a time before Google maps and his own map, missing many local roads, added an element of uncertainty and excitement to his travels. Despite numerous unexpected mishaps, these challenges often led to heart-warming encounters and unforgettable experiences, showcasing the incredible hospitality of the Irish.

This book also documents life in 1991 Ireland before the economic success of the Celtic Tiger. A time when people had time to stop and chat with a cup of tea, where invites to stay overnight were common, and life was less complicated.

Join Stephan as he ventures through Ireland’s most picturesque spots by bicycle including the Ring of Kerry, Rock of Cashel, Glen of Aherlow and the Cliffs of Moher. Read his captivating stories of the people he met along the way, including the hilarious tale of the ladies of Donabate. Moreover, discover his insights into Irish history and culture. This is a story about embracing the unexpected, the kindness of strangers, and the beauty of exploring Ireland on two wheels.
